Bill Fernekes is a founding member of Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA), and currently serves on the network's National Steering Committee. A central goal of HRE USA is advocating for the inclusion of human rights education (HRE) in national and state education policies, standards, curricula and pedagogy. Bill Fernekes served on the national educators steering committee of Amnesty International USA from 1987-1990, and was the advisor/co-advisor for the campus chapter of Amnesty International USA at Hunterdon Central Reg. HS from 1986-2010.

Bill Fernekes serves as a field consultant for the NJ Principals and Supervisors Association.
