American youth, expressing its opinions on political conflicts and marching for peace and equality, can no longer be accused of apathy and complacency. Today, a significant number of young men and women are coming to the front, striving to create a better society, a society free from hypocrisy, prejudice, poverty and war. The younger generation is no longer satisfied to remain silent and is finally claiming its citizenship in the world community. Since the destiny of our nation and the future of the world depends upon the continued pursuit of our ideals, we, the Class of 1970, dedicate our yearbook to Youth.
"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."
"Turn on, tune in, drop out."
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'"
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
"If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace."
"You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom."
"If society stopped telling girls that men can and should hand them their total identity on a silver platter, wives wouldn't be so resentful when it didn't happen."
"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
"The only way to support a revolution is to make your own."
"Let us close the springs of racial poison. Let us pray for wise and understanding hearts. Let us lay aside irrelevant differences and make our Nation whole."
"The human race is challenged more than ever before to demonstrate our mastery, not over nature but of ourselves."
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."
